Passing the Badge

My feature story I am writing about is called "Passing The Badge", it will be about how recently retired officers instead of sitting down and relaxing, are teaching the younger generations about law enforcement. I think that this is important because most people think that retired workers/officers sit down and do nothing but eat and watch football. I want the people to think that some retired workers/officers work to help or influence the community. The interviewees are retired Rockford Police Detective Jeff Barabasz, my father and a key piece to the story. Jeff retired from the Rockford Police Department last year to pursue teaching at Guilford High School. Jeff has made a big impact on the students at Guilford, Jeff even was a featured story on the local news in Rockford Illinois. I hope to interview some of Jeff's students to talk about how they like Criminal Justice and how Jeff is teaching/impacting them. Another person being interviewed is retired Lieutenant Mike Ahrens who was a Lieutenant at Rockford Police Department for 26 years. Mike also recently retired from the Rockford Police Department to pursue teaching at Jefferson High School. Mike is also a key piece to the story because he was influenced to teach by my father Jeff. Another person who will be interviewed is Lieutenant Dennis Oblinger, Dennis was also recently retired from the Rockford Police Department. Dennis was a Lieutenant at the Rockford Police department for almost 30 years. Dennis will be a key piece as well to show that even some retirees like relaxing and also are looking for a job. I plan on writing about how it is Sunday, Jeff Barabasz is watching football, then write about how he has another job, to teach students about Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement. Then go into detail about Jeff Barabasz's career as a teacher. Hopefully get some reactions from Jeff's students and how he impacted them. Then go into how my father's new job influenced other officers like Mike Ahrens and look into his teaching career. Finally interview Dennis Oblinger about how retired life is and what are his plans on working for the future. Finally give words of wisdom about how some retired workers like to relax, but some of them work and help influence the next generation.
